Half a million American minors are living in Mexico
Ghost Children
In the Mexican educational system, American kids can be excluded because they are not Mexicans, so they don’t appear in the system for which they cant obtain academic degrees.
As consequence, parents need to pay for expensive private schools or don’t provide education to their kids.
Immigration Laws
- The legal status of family members (family members aren’t able to travel to the U.S.)
- Not economic support
Lack of Opportunities
The lack of opportunities and access to services/technology in Mexico for American kids is one of the biggest issues they face.
In the U.S. most schools provide access to the internet and computers, however, in Mexico that is not always possible.
Without knowing what they can achieve
The American children we work with may not know that they have the ability to earn a college degree, since for many Latinos that was not an option in the United States. Many times, their families can’t tell them more about higher education because they didn’t have higher education. We can tell an aquarium fish that there is an ocean, but if we don’t take it to the ocean, the fish may never believe it. That is why we are trying to give opportunities to our participants so that they can see and experience what they can achieve with effort and dedication.
